Elizabeth Peña currently stars on the Showtime series "Resurrection Blvd" for which she received the ALMA Award for "Best Actress in a New Series." Peña first gained recognition in the movie "Down and Out in Beverly Hills." She was born in the United States and was raised in Cuba. Peña moved back to Manhattan at the age of eight and began acting professionally two years later. Peña went on to appear in more than 20 off-Broadway shows and toured for two years as Shakespeare's Juliet. She has worked with such renowned theater companies as Joseph Papp's Public Theater, La Mama, and San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater. Peña's film career includes roles in "La Bamba," "Rush Hour" and "Jacob's Ladder." She is also known for her starring role in the film "Lone Star" for which she received an Independent Spirit Award and a Bravo Award for "Best Actress in a Film." On television, Peña's credits include the Emmy® Award-winning film "Drug Wars: The Camarena Story," a recurring role on the last season of "L.A. Law" and a starring role in the sitcom "I Married Dora." In 1993 she produced and directed "Celebrando La Diferencia," a Latino literature series for children with Richard Dreyfuss, Alfre Woodard and other celebrity readers. This season, Peña will direct an episode of Resurrection Blvd.
