Laura Wilkinson upset the heavily-favored Chinese divers in the 10-meter Platform Dive event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Laura is a 10-time U.S. National Champion.
A member of the United States diving team since 1995, Laura Wilkinson has won four national titles and is an eight-time NCAA All-American. At the 1997 summer nationals, Wilkinson captured her sole springboard championship and the first of her three platform crowns. While attending the University of Texas Wilkinson won two NCAA platform titles. In 1999 she decided to leave the University of Texas and turned professional.
At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Wilkinson surprised the world by winning the gold medal in the women's 10-meter platform event. The first gold medal in that event by an American woman since 1964. |
